Take Time to be Holy

As I was flipping through a hymnal yesterday, I took time to read the Hymn with the above title. As I did so, I was struck by the basic and essential truths contained in the poem. I would encourage you to read through the stanzas carefully, observing each thought that the author penned, for in them you will discover the practical fundamentals that should be true of every Christian's life.

“Take Time to Be Holy”
William D. Longstaff (1822-1894)
“As He which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy.” (1 Peter 1:15)

1. Take time to be holy, Speak oft with thy Lord;
Abide in Him always, And feed on His Word.
Make friends of God's children; Help those who are weak;
Forgetting in nothing His blessing to seek.

2. Take time to be holy, The world rushes on;
Spend much time in secret With Jesus alone;
By looking to Jesus, Like Him thou shalt be;
Thy friends in thy conduct His likeness shall see.

3. Take time to be holy, Let Him be thy Guide,
And run not before Him, Whatever betide;
In joy or in sorrow, Still follow the Lord,
And, looking to Jesus, Still trust in His Word.
